Daniel & Jessenia Bain

Love, Light & Melody. Daniel and Jessenia have been called by the LORD to stand in the gap and make up a wall (Ezekiel 22:30) for families living in the Managua city trash dump. They stand in prayer, seeking the LORD for His strategy to build His walls of Salvation (Isaiah 60:18). This happens first in the Spirit, that then God’s children may be delivered to see Him as their loving Father and find their true identity in Him. With Christ as the foundation, families can then be rebuilt/restored to then be rebuilders, restorers, and repairers as Priests of the LORD and Ministers of God (Isaiah 61:4,6).

Daniel and Jessenia supervise a children’s home for at risk girls of families they know from the trash dump. The girls go to school and live in a safe environment, while growing into responsibility. The primary focus is definitely their spiritual deliverance and healing—that they would know their identity in Christ—and that their parents would also know their identity in Christ to then allow Him to build their house (Psalm 127:1). Daniel was born into and raised in the North Way Community before moving to Nicaragua in 2005, while his parents Bruce and Kathy continue to faithfully serve the congregation. He and Jessenia married in January 2010.

Lisa Anderson-Umana: Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Lisa Anderson-Umana has been serving in Christian Camping since 1983, having started out in Camp Kikoten, Mexico and then in 1990, she became the director of leadership development for Christian Camping International, Latin America. The manner in which they impact children and young people’s lives for Christ is through their Leadership Development pyramid (see figure). Each layer of leadership is developed by the tier above it and grows exponentially with each new camp counselor, program director and instructor formed. Every year or so an Institute for Forming Instructors is held in a designated country of Latin America. This 17-day long intensive institute “trains the trainers” and once the new instructors graduate, will result in directly impacting the lives of hundreds of camp counselors who will participate in the training courses they will hold throughout Mexico, Central and South America. These counselors in turn will impact for Christ the lives of thousands of needy children and young people who will attend the camps held by these newly trained counselors. The impact of these IFI’s will be felt throughout Latin America as viewed in the map (see figure) since graduates come from nine different countries of Latin America (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina).

Until now, the two professors responsible for teaching these Institutes for Forming Instructors have been two North American missionaries, Lisa and a fellow missionary, Bob Sabean.

Over the next several years, this team will be broadened into a multi-cultural team of professors. How the top tier of our Leadership development pyramid is being broadened (see figure):

  • Instead of just one small team, we are creating two teams, one for the region of South America and one for Mexico/Central America.
  • Instead of just two members, each team will have approx. 6 members, making for a pool of 12 professors to draw from.
  • Instead of just one culture being represented, ten will be represented, from North to South: USA, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina.

They have started this process and feel God’s confirmation that they are on the right track! A flame burns in the heart of a number of very proficient instructors with a yearning to become part of this multicultural team of professors and they are counting the cost to belong to it.

Mirna Sotomayor & Diana Garrett: Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico

Mirna Sotomayor works with Diana Garrett to develop Camp Kikomar, located on the Gulf of Mexico near the city of Tuxpan. Besides camp construction, their ministry involves teaching and training people in Bible and counseling. They also have a special burden for indigenous people and seek to support persecuted believers and help the church in whatever way possible.

Their goals are to share God’s love with students and their families, to establish young believers in faith through worship, fellowship and discipleship, to equip the believers so they can serve others, and to improve the quality of life for boarding school or dormitory students. They are committed to this project and expect God to do great things. Thanks for your prayers and support!
