All-Campus Short-Term Focused Groups

Trauma and Grief in the Healthcare Profession

Thursdays at 7:30pm, Zoom
6 Weeks Beginning Thursday, January 28 – March 4

Leader: Dan Andrews

Exposure to grief and trauma have always been a part of the healthcare professional’s job description, and this year COVID 19 has exponentially increased that level of exposure. This is a call to gather as a community of believers in healthcare, rooted in our faith in Christ, to set out on a new or renewed trajectory of healing and resilience. Join us as we walk through the five phases of the grieving process together over a six-week period. Our final week we’ll be led by Bonnie Martin who is a licensed professional counselor who specializes in trauma, PTSD, and coping skills. Perhaps for the first time we will truly invite the Holy Spirit into the grief and trauma we experience within our everyday lives. Let’s do this together. (Open to active, inactive, and student healthcare professionals and their loved ones.)

Hearing the Voice of God Workshop

Thursdays at 7:00pm, Zoom
4 Weeks Beginning Thursday, Feb 18 – Thursday, March 11

Leader: Mary Mercer The ability to “hear God” is for believers who have been walking with Jesus ten days, ten years, or a lifetime. The issue is not “is God really speaking?” The question is always, “Are we listening?” This workshop will help to demystify what “hearing God” means in our daily lives.  In this workshop, you will:
  • Learn ways God speaks and begin to recognize ways God is already speaking to you
  • Gain practical tools and forms of prayer to enhance two-way communication with God
  • Uncover truth to address possible myths or lies you have been believing about God and His voice
  • Participate in various activities designed to increase your capacity to perceive the voice of God
  • Connect with others who are on a journey of discovering God’s voice

The opening night of this workshop will be led by Tara Browder who has a wealth of experience helping others in the area of prayer. Here is a bit of Tara’s bio:

As an ordained minister, Tara founded her non-profit Abba’s River Ministries, and she has also published two books. In When God is in the Whisper, she teaches through biblical examples and personal stories how to recognize God’s voice. In her most recently published book, Overcoming Bride, she shares practical ways to prepare ourselves to experience the greatest romance we will ever know—-the tangible love of a Bridegroom God. Tara is the Prayer Coordinator for Gateway Community Church in Austin, Texas where she currently lives.

Leader: Moore & More Women’s Bible Study

Old Testament heroes are best known for their most celebrated moments: Moses dividing the Red Sea; David slaying Goliath; Gideon routing an insurmountable army; Joshua marching around the defiant walls of Jericho.

And Elijah–calling down fire on Mount Carmel. Blinded by the remarkable narratives of our biblical heroes, we can forget they each had a backstory–months and years of development, even difficulty, which fortified their spiritual muscle and prepared them for the tasks that made their lives unforgettable. Every serious believer longs to summon up the kind of boldness and faith that can stand firm on Mount Carmel and pray down heaven into impossible situations. Yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there. Strength of faith, character, and boldness can only be shaped in the hidden fires of silence, sameness, solitude, and adversity. Those who patiently wait on God in the darkness emerge with their holy loyalty cemented, their courage emblazoned, and their confident belief in Him set afire. Join Priscilla Shirer on this 7-session journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now.
