Know Jesus

If you're wondering how to begin a relationship with Jesus, consider these four principles:

Principle 1: God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.

John 3:16 – “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 10:10 – “[Jesus] came that they might have life and might have it abundantly.”

But why are people not experiencing the life that God has for us?

Principle 2: All of us sin, and sin separates us from God.

Sin is anything less than what God says is best. Here’s what the Bible says about sin:

Romans 3:23 – “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23a – “The wages of sin is death.”

Because of our sin, we are deserving of death but…..

Principle 3: Jesus Christ is God’s provision for our sin. Through Christ we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives.

Romans 6:23b – “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Jesus died in our place. And he rose from the dead, conquering sin and death

1 Corinthians 15:3-5 – “…Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.”

Jesus is the only way to God

John 14:6 – “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, except through me.’”

However, it is not enough to simply know these three principles…

Principle 4: We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord

John 1:12 – “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

We receive Christ through faith and not as a result of any good things we do.

Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Receiving Christ involves turning from yourself and trusting Christ. If you would like to receive Christ, you can right now through prayer. Prayer is a conversation between you and God – it’s not so much about the words you say but about the attitude of your heart. If it’s helpful, think of it as ABC:

A – Admit you’re a sinner. You are not able to save yourself. You need God to save you.

B – Believe in Jesus and what He has done. Believing is agreeing with what the Bible teaches about Jesus. That he lived a perfect life, died the death we deserved, and rose again in victory over sin and death.

C – Commit to follow Jesus. This is more that knowing about Jesus, this is knowing Jesus as friend, leader, and the only object of your worship.
