EL SALVADOR
God began a long process of moving our hearts toward those on the margins in urban areas, and it became clear in 2009 that He was calling us to the city of San Salvador, the capital of the Central American nation of El Salvador. We moved that same year with our 2 children. We spent our first year volunteering locally while we prepared more fully for our work. Jon became certified in El Salvador as an addiction therapist, and Danielle became certified in anti-trafficking work. Together, we founded Mission To El Salvador which opened in the heart of the city with the purpose of reaching those most devastated by the spiritual and physical effects of poverty, addiction, and exploitation. Today we work with youth ages 10-17 with addictions through the New Dawn Residential Program. We also work with adults who struggle with addictions, homelessness, and extreme poverty as well as those who have survived the traumas of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation through the Lighthouse Resource Center. We also work with Salvadorans who have returned from the U.S. We started this ministry to meet the deep spiritual needs of those who have been rejected by so many others, and to lead them to a relationship with Christ and the freedom found there. Building on this basis, our ministry is focused on providing opportunities for healing, recovery, personal growth, and dignified work. We are so excited to partner with North Way on this mission, and to a be a part of your work to extend God’s Kingdom throughout the world!
