Phil & Linda

Romania

Phil and Linda Gottschalk have served as overseas missionaries for over 30 years. Currently they are working with UBC22 in Bucharest, Romania. UBC22 started in 2022 when Ukrainian refugees started to come to Bucharest seeking refugee from the war. Romanian Christians stepped up to meet their needs. These Ukrainian refugees are ethnically Russian people and speak Russian. Phil is drawing on his knowledge of the Russian language which he learned at Penn State. Linda is using her background in Serbo-Croatian, a related language, to learn Russian. Phil and Linda are giving practical care, pastoral care and biblical teaching to some of these refugees, using English and Russian. Prior to their time in Romania, the Gottschalks spent 21 years teaching as a part of Tyndale Theological Seminary near Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2000-2021). There they trained Christian leaders from more than 70 nations. Earlier, they taught and discipled in Yugoslavia (Serbia) (1986-1994), as a part of the Eastern European Bible Institute. They also taught Serbian refugee teens in Novi Sad, Serbia during the Bosnian War (1992-94).
