I Identify as Self Righteous

In the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector, it’s very easy to compare ourselves with the pharisee and let ourselves off the hook. But if you take a moment to go deeper, Luke makes a point to tell us Jesus was speaking to a specific audience: “those who trusted themselves and hold others in contempt.”Contempt is the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving disregard; the act of despising.Who do you treat with contempt? Who do you secretly hope will fail? Or who do you put down in your mind so you can feel better about yourself? Who you think isn’t worth your time? If you check yourself, how many people do you hold with contempt? Perhaps it’s a group of people?A contemptuous frame of mind leads to self-righteousness.Speaker: Pastor Dave D’Angelo
