Sunday Night Camp Experience

Hey! Sophia Hudson here!

I thought I would post a little bit about the English Camp from this past Sunday!

Our group awoke to the squawk of the friendly neighborhood peacock and quickly jumped into a morning devotional to start the day.
Shortly after breakfast, the campers had their own devotional time and then the English classes instructed by our Northway crew began. Sterling and I lead our beginner class through a game of verb charades, which was a huge hit. Each class period we have been blown away by the kids’ cooperation and hunger to learn. Today was no different and we found ourselves leafing through English vocabulary flashcards and instructing the kids on pronunciations long after class had ended.

After lunch, the campers engaged in some organized events and a few hours of free time – water balloon fights, tshirt decorating, and a few small sided games of soccer ensued.

Then to end the night, our North Way group spoke in front of the campers. Joelle and Geran both shared portions of their testimony. Given the age and current life experiences and struggles of the audience, both Geran and Joelle opted to highlight their college years and moments of trust amidst uncertainty that proved fruitful in their careers and more importantly their relationship with God. Vince rounded off the night with a presentation of the gospel, inviting all who felt the Lord knocking to open up the door of their hearts. It was a remarkable night and several campers said they felt the Lord speaking directly to them through the testimonies and Vince’s message.

In short, I have greatly enjoyed my time and been encouraged by the hearts of the college students and astounded by their convictions. In many ways I feel out-classed. I came into this trip with the expectation of serving others and instead I feel like I have been outdone and humbled in the best way possible. Humbled by the limitations of a foreign language, humbled by the generosity of those around me, and humbled by the work of our Lord in this country. Praise God forever and always! Amen.
