Day 2 – City Center Cultural Observation

Our first full day in Honduras was filled with much joy and learning! The team split into smaller groups with Honduran translators and explored the city center while completing a scavenger hunt to help guide conversations with locals and notice surroundings. We shared our experiences with each other exchanging stories from what we learned, observed, and heard from Hondurans we spoke to. Many people asked shopkeepers, police officers, families, and people of each economic class questions about what they love about Honduras.

Our mission partner, Lisa, taught us about Honduran values and how those are expressed in the culture and details we see around us. We contrasted those values to North American cultural clues and discussed the positive and shadow sides of each. We then had an opportunity to tour a Honduran museum led by a guide who taught us about everything we saw. After debriefing our day, we went home with our host families for the evening to eat dinner, play games, worship, and any other wonderful activities they invited us to!
